🚗 Woven by Toyota: Senior Software Engineer, Sensor & Calibration 🚗

Woven by Toyota is at the forefront of transforming Toyota into a mobility company for the next century. Our mission is to redefine mobility through human-centric innovation, expanding its meaning and societal impact.

Our work is built on four key pillars:

  • AD/ADAS: Autonomous driving and advanced driver-assist technologies.
  • Arene: A software development platform for software-defined vehicles.
  • Woven City: A testbed for mobility innovation.
  • Cloud & AI: The digital infrastructure powering our collaborative efforts.

We are united by a bold goal: a world with zero accidents and enhanced well-being for all.

TEAM: World Understanding

The World Understanding team is crucial for our autonomous driving development, encompassing Sensing, Perception, and Localization. Within this team, the Sensor & Calibration sub-team is dedicated to the intrinsic and extrinsic calibration of autonomous driving sensors like Cameras, LiDAR, Radar, and IMUs. We also manage sensor data quality for post-processing and oversee the calibration operations for our autonomous driving test vehicles.

🌟 WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR? 🌟

We are seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer to join our Sensor & Calibration sub-team. You will be instrumental in developing online (dynamic) sensor calibration algorithms for our next-generation autonomous driving system. Your responsibilities will include designing and implementing these algorithms, validating their quality, optimizing their performance within resource constraints, and ultimately deploying them to millions of Toyota production vehicles.

We are looking for individuals with:

  • Specialized expertise in sensor calibration for autonomous driving systems.
  • A thorough understanding of autonomous driving sensor hardware (Camera, LiDAR, Radar, IMU).
  • Proven experience in developing algorithms and tools for sensor calibration.
  • A collaborative, "giver" mindset, eager to support colleagues while delivering production-ready solutions.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the design, implementation, and delivery of next-generation online (dynamic) sensor calibration algorithms, proactively addressing deficiencies and ensuring solutions meet reliability, quality, and business impact objectives.
  • Establish validation pipelines to guarantee that developed online sensor calibration algorithms adhere to the required calibration accuracy specified by Toyota products.
  • Optimize sensor calibration algorithms for runtime, accuracy, and robustness, particularly considering constraints imposed by limited computational resources.
  • Collaborate with vehicle engineers and operators to ensure exceptional sensor calibration quality, critical for optimal vehicle deployment and enhanced autonomous driving performance.
  • Operate within a high-velocity environment and employ rigorous agile development practices.
  • Work within a hybrid workspace model, requiring physical presence in our Ann Arbor (Michigan, US) office three days per week.

📚 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 📚

  • A minimum of three years of industrial experience in computer vision or a related field, with demonstrated expertise in:
    • Sensor Calibration for IMU, LiDAR, Camera, or Radar
    • Structure-from-motion
    • SLAM or Localization
    • Sensor fusion
    • 3D reconstruction or Multi-view geometry
  • Proficiency in C++ and Python programming languages.
  • Practical, hands-on experience in constructing a comprehensive sensor calibration stack for autonomous driving systems.
  • Profound understanding of autonomous driving sensors, including Camera, LiDAR, Radar, and IMU.
  • Experience in developing testable and modular code to maintain a robust production environment.
  • The ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and collaborate effectively across teams and disciplines, supported by excellent interpersonal skills.
  • MS or PhD in Computer Science, Computer Vision, Robotics, or related quantitative fields.

💡 NICE TO HAVES 💡

  • Experience in runtime optimization specifically for Linux and UNIX-like real-time operating systems.
  • Experience with embedded CUDA development and associated tooling.
  • A proven track record of deploying Machine Learning (ML) models at scale within autonomous driving or related technological fields.

🎁 WHAT WE OFFER 🎁

We are committed to fostering a modern work environment that supports our employees and their loved ones. We offer a comprehensive suite of programs designed to help you do your most meaningful work and shape the future of mobility.

  • Excellent health, wellness, dental, and vision coverage.
  • A rewarding 401k program.
